How Much Does Custom Software Cost in India? A 2026 Breakdown

Aryavrut Team Published: Oct 27, 2026 8 min read

What custom software really costs in India in 2026, the factors that move the price, realistic ranges for common projects, and how to avoid paying for the same thing twice.

Ask three agencies what your software will cost and you will get three very different numbers, often an order of magnitude apart. That is not because someone is lying. It is because "custom software" covers everything from a one-screen internal tool to a platform that runs a business, and the price follows the work, not the label.

This is an honest look at what drives the cost of custom software in India in 2026, with the ranges we actually see, so you can budget before you talk to anyone.

Why there is no single price

A quote is really an estimate of effort: how many capable people, for how many weeks. Two projects that sound identical in a sentence can differ by months once you open them up. "A booking app" might mean a weekend's worth of forms, or it might mean payments, refunds, multi-city inventory, and a partner dashboard. The sentence is the same. The build is not.

So instead of a number, start with the things that move the number.

    What actually moves the cost

Scope and screens. Every distinct screen, role, and workflow adds design, build, and testing time. A tool with an admin view and a customer view is roughly two products wearing one name.

Integrations. Payments, WhatsApp, Tally, GST e-invoicing, maps, SMS, accounting. Each integration is reliable the day it works and a time sink the week it does not. Count them early.

Design. A functional interface is cheaper than a polished, branded one. Both are valid choices. Just know which you are paying for.

Compliance and data. Handling health records, payments, or children's data pulls in security and audit work that a simple catalogue site never touches.

Team seniority. A senior team costs more per week but usually fewer weeks, and makes fewer expensive mistakes. The cheapest day rate is rarely the cheapest project.

Timeline. Compressing a schedule means more people in parallel, more coordination, and a premium. Giving a project room is one of the few ways to genuinely lower its cost.

    Realistic ranges in 2026

Treat these as rough brackets, not quotes. They assume a competent team and change the moment your requirements do.

    • A focused internal tool or MVP (a handful of screens, one or two integrations): typically a few lakh rupees, delivered in roughly 6 to 10 weeks.
    • A full product or SaaS (multiple roles, payments, a real admin panel): usually mid-to-high single-digit lakhs and up, over 3 to 6 months.
    • An ongoing platform (the software a whole operation depends on): runs into tens of lakhs over a year, because it is never really "done", it grows with the business.

If a quote sits far below these, ask what has been assumed away. If it sits far above, ask what you are getting that you did not ask for.

Where projects quietly go over budget

Most overruns are not bad luck. They are scope that was never written down, "small" change requests that each looked free, integrations that turned out to be one-way, and a vague finish line that kept moving. A fixed price on a fuzzy scope is a fixed price on a guess. The fix is boring and effective: agree what "done" means before the build starts. That is exactly what a proper discovery phase is for.

How to spend less without cutting corners

Ship the smallest version that is genuinely useful, then add to it once real users tell you what matters. Reuse proven components instead of building a payment flow or an auth system from scratch. And be honest about whether you need custom software at all, sometimes an off-the-shelf tool is the right call, which we covered in custom software vs off-the-shelf.

Who builds it also changes the maths

The same scope costs differently through a freelancer, an in-house hire, a large IT services firm, or a small studio, and each carries a different risk. We lay the trade-offs out plainly in agency vs freelancer vs in-house, and more specifically in Aryavrut vs a typical IT services company and Aryavrut vs building in-house.

The fastest way to a reliable figure is a short conversation about what you are trying to ship. Tell us the outcome you want on our services page or contact us, and we will give you an honest range and say so plainly if custom software is not the right spend.
